Social Design Through Making
Bodja Design is more than just a workshop for making chairs. We are a collaborative community that creates chairs and conducts chair-making workshops with a strong focus on social and environmental outcomes. Our unique hand-tool system allows clients to actively participate in the chair creation process, fostering a sense of ownership and connection. The use of salvaged timbers adds a personal touch, allowing clients to incorporate materials that hold personal significance, be it time, place, or person. Our community arts projects are a testament to our commitment, as we create chairs for public spaces in collaboration with local councils, mental health organisations, libraries, and various other community groups.

Dr Mike Epworth takes you on a 3 - 4 Day chair-making workshop, where you are shown the skills required
to make a chair in the JIMMY POSSUM revivalist tradition.
BODjA chairs are made from reclaimed timbers that have a connection to you (memories and meaning).
Participants are encouraged to bring along timber to be repurposed and become part of something new.
Depending on the season, roving workshops can be set up by rivers, under trees, or historic buildings.
Participants are guaranteed to take home a co-created BODjA chair to pass down through the generations.
Bodja Design holds chair-making workshops throughout the year in Tasmania at The Jolly Farmer Inn (Perth, Tasmania)
and at our Mt Coolum studio on the Sunshine Coast, QLD.
